As anyone who follows my Minnie Mightie Topics Facebook page knows, I love finding and posting quotes that are empowering, encouraging or thought provoking. The ideas behind these quotes provide a quick injection of positivity and reality into an oftentimes  brain draining day. With this in mind, I came up with the name Minnie Mightie Morsels. For the next little while, leading up to the release of my new Minnie Mightie Wellness Book, I would like to collect a montage of  insights and ideas and present them in mini-blogs or in morsel amounts. The goal of these Minnie Mightie Morsels is to uplift, to nurture different perspectives and provide practical suggestions aimed at unlocking inner truths and cutting through outer worldly illusions. In other words, little tidbits of information to ponder, to question, to digest, to apply or to simply discard and go on with your day. Little morsels to distract you from automatic pilot and encourage you to step back and briefly consider a different reality.

Here goes - no set order:

Minnie Mightie Morsel #1 - Start the day on an upbeat note with a positive intention, a few deep breaths, thoughts of gratitude and/or  uplifting words.

How often do you wake up to an anxious, nervous or negative feeling in the pit of your stomach? Your thoughts automatically start analyzing your day ahead and producing a variety of red flags. Accepting those thoughts and the emotions they produces leaves you feeling defeated before your day even begins. Try setting a positive intention of how you would like your day to go-e.g.  "My day at the office will be filled with cooperation, good team work, some laughter and a feeling of satisfaction". Send that brighter energy or thought pattern out there and see how the day unfolds.

Deep breathing when you first wake up or any time during the day is always a good technique to calm your system down. Breath in for 4 counts through the nose (natural filter), hold for 4 counts and then exhale slowly for 4 counts or longer. Check out my Calming Meditation on the website for more practice. Deep breathing takes you away from our head and brings you back into an awareness of your body and the present moment.

Another method to raise your spirits is to come up with a daily gratitude list of at least 5 things. Writing the list down in a journal or simply noticing your many blessings as you go about your day  (family, clean water, food, a warm house etc.), is a sure fire way to lighten your spirit.

Repeating comforting words out load or in your head is another possible avenue to try when attempting to rein in your negative thoughts. Any word or phrase that makes you feel good will do. e.g.. "Love", "Peace", "Praise God", "I am worthy", "Chocolate cake".

Thanks for taking a conscious moment to chew on the first Minnie Mightie Morsel. Whether you digest it or spit it out, is totally up to you and what works for you. Stay tuned for more morsels and taste tests to come.
